THE BRIEF HISTORY OF KARHU

1916
Ab Sport Artiklar Oy is established, the picture of a bear is already used in the company logo.

1920's
The company name is changed to Karhu, which means a bear in finnish. Karhu has factories in Porvoo and Helsinki. In Porvoo the company even has its own power station. Discus and javelins are the most important products, but also running and track shoes are manufactured. Team Karhu athletes are ie. Olympic Champion and world record-holder J.Myyrä and the Antwerp Olympics four-time medal winning javelin team.

1930's
The product range expands. Karhu produces cross country skis, discus, javelins, skis for ski-jumpers, training equipment centres, athletic footwear ranging from ski boots to shoes for marathon runners. The Team Karhu includes all the leading Finnish athletes, headed by Paavo Nurmi.

1940's
During the war Karhu does its bit in defending Finland. Camouflage uniforms, half-platoon tents, army boots and skis for the Finnish army are manufactured in Karhu factories.

NEXT
