1980's
Karhu becomes a fully-fledged international sports equipment manufacturer. The ice-hockey trademarks Jofa, Koho and Canadien pass to Karhu, and the company becomes the market leader in ice-hockey equipment. Other new trademarks worth mentioning include Merrel. Karhu is owned by Amer and SYP [bank]. In 1986 FulcruM® system is developed and again copied immediately by competitors. FulcruM® makes the rolling action and shock absorption of the running shoe even more efficient. In 1988 Karhu launches Ortix® system. It makes it possible to measure the pronation of feet. Shortly after that AP-system is developed and still used in some of Karhu´s running shoes. Asko buys Karhu in 1988.

1990's
Karhu's business activities are split into their individual business areas. For example Merrel is sold because Karhu does not see any business opportunities in sandals. Telemark skis are produced in Canada under the Karhu brand. Karhu's floorball products are launched. Another focus of production nationally are Finnish baseball and cross country skis.

Millenium
Hand of Doom –floorball stick brand is launched and strong product development in running shoes is started again. Karhu makes some ground brakeing innovations in cross country skiing equipments. Karhu Originals is launched. M-series, a new technical running shoe with Anatomic Controlling System® is going to be in shops in 2006. Third selection of Karhu Originals…
