MARTTI VAINIO Probaply the best known Team Karhu runner is the long distance runner Martti Vainio, European Champion 1978 in 10 000 meters running. His career lasted a long time and had many ups and downs. For example he still won bronze medal in 5 000 meters running in 1983 World championships but unfornately lost his Olympic silver and was banned from races in 1984 after using illegal subtances. After his career he founded a resort home in the middle of nowhere. This place called Lomakouhero turned out to be another great success for Martti and he sold it a couple of years ago. Nowadays he owns a locomotive museum and has his own company organizing for example motor sledge events.
